Essential Ghost Hunting Kit
New Technology and Paranormal Research.
Research into the Paranormal has been performed since the late part of the 19th century with the establishment of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR). The society was formed by a body of distinguished gentlemen including Edmund Gurney, Frederic William Henry Myers, William Fletcher Barrett, Henry Sidgwick and Edmund Dawson Rogers. Its stated purpose was “….To approach these varied problems without prejudice or prepossession of any kind, and in the same spirit of exact unimpassioned enquiry which has enabled science to solve so many problems.”
Most of the same processes used in those days are still being used in ghost research today. The Society would talk to witnesses, gather evidence, and keep organized accounts of each event. But in those days there were no EMF devices, audio recordings, or any other electrical equipment you may associate with contemporary investigations. The use of electronics has increasingly found it’s way into this field since those early pioneering days.
The first ghost hunter to make use of this technology during an investigation was, himself, a past, associate of the SPR. Harry Price, in the 1920s, would use a camera and film to shoot photographs of spirits, mechanical bells were utilized as a sort of motion indicator, and measuring items like twine and tape, much like contemporary ghost hunters still use today. Many of the public were unconvinced by his work and concluded he was a charlatan. However, he formed the bedrock of which present day research has now become.
The next meaningful indication of how technical progression could help with paranormal research happened in 1959 when Fredrich Gurgenson stumbled upon Electronic Voice Phenomena – whilst recording bird songs. He proceeded to make numerous EVP recordings and wrote several of books on the matter. Consequently, because of this great discovery, there is a whole branch of research devoted to electronic voice phenomena.
From the eighties onward technology moved forward at fast rate, and buyers extra cash cash in their pockets to invest in electronic equipment for the purpose carrying out paranormal study’s. Electro magnetic field meters were available in stores, along with similar type gadgets. Ghost hunting has become quite popular nowadays. There are a great many different types of tools which can now be used to aid in research in to the paranormal. There are some devices, that I haven’t mentioned, like: (a) Electrostatic generators; an unconventional piece of equipment which produces static electricity. (b) Tone generators; another advanced ghost hunting tool similar to the static generator in that it is said to help in the manifestation of ghosts. (c) Ir motion detectors; usually used to detect motion in a vacant room.
The current popularity of the paranormal is largely due to the increasing amount of documentaries and television productions devoted to the paranormal. Continued interest could benefit the paranormal community, if further discoveries come to light. The main objective in paranormal investigation is to attempt to learn as much as we can about the mysterious world that we live in.
Essential Ghost Hunting kit.
There is a wide range of tools for ghost hunting – some which have been adapted for use in this field. The contents in the list below are an “essential tool kit”, and can be bought}purchased in stores, either in the High Street or on the internet However, all equipment takes preparation and practice to get to know how to use properly. Never attempt to go out on an investigation if you do not know how to use your tools properly! Also, do not leave any of the less sophisticated items out of your list in an attempt to get yourself more technically equipped. Paranormal researchers have operated for many years, and had positive results, using no more than modest items like a camera and tape alongside developing their own intuition.
1. Notebook and pen (for taking notes.
2. Drawing Pad & Pencils (for making diagrams)
3. Measuring tape (checking distances)
4. Flashlight (no explanation needed)
5. Extra Batteries (for all battery powered equipment)
6. Extra films and recording tapes (just in case)
7. Small tool kit (might be needed to change batteries, etc)
8. Camera (35 mm, if possible)
9. Motion Sensor Devices (infrared sensors)
10. Audio recording Devices
11. Video Camera
OTHER EQUIPMENT.
If you are serious about your equipment and money isn’t a problem, then here are a few, more products that you may like to consider purchasing:
1. IR Thermometer (detecting fluctuations in temperature)
2. Electro-magnetic Field Meter (detects changes in EMF)
3. Ion Detector (if you must have one these items then buy a device with a meter)
4. Geiger Counter (measures fluctuations in radiation levels)
